Music from home is the first ever produced sampler for this distributor and as you will learn through this interview it is more then yet another label sampler. BB : Music form home is on first sight a label sampler, but once you get into it you see there is more to it. You succeed in combining lots of seventies singer songwriters with the cream of today's scene. To start with : Is it the first time you create a label sampler and how much of your own "sweat, blood and tears" are involved in it? (f.e are all artists hand picked by you) Peter : Yes, this is the first sampler we've done, and we're very happy with it! All artists/songs are handpicked by "Hemifrån", and we've worked real hard on everything (music, mastering, cover, rights, etc.) since December 2009. BB: Are all the songs on this sampler taken from existing recordings or is some new material added as well. Peter : All recordings are exclusive to this disc - Some songs we're laying around unused in the artists archives, and some were specifically written for this project. BB : I read on the publicity sheet that came with the album that people like Graham Nash & David Crosby are involved, as well as a big part of the original line-up of Bread and so on. Can you tell me a bit more about these contributions? Peter : Joel Rafael's contribution is a live recording where Joel take turns with Graham Nash on the lead vocals. Bob Cheevers' track features three original members of Bread; Mike Botts, James Griffin and Larry Knechtel. Jeff Larson did his recording together with Gerry Beckley from America. Italian singer-songwriter Francesco Lucarelli managed to get Graham Nash on harmonies and harmonica. And so on...... BB : The sampler or compilation comes with eighteen tracks that are best described as Americana and reminds me of the folk/country scene from the late seventies, early eighties. Your label however is also promoting Countrybilly, Texas Americana and other genres. Is there a specific reason why these aren't included on this album. Peter : We're already hard at work on volume 2 - And the next CD will feature more of a americana-country-folk-roots-theme. BB: While you must be extremely proud of it, I supose you have some dissapointments as well. Any things you liked to do but couldn't achieve for some reason. (f.e. a song /artist that noy could be included). Peter : The only regret I have, is that I couldn't convince JD Souther to contribute a track - Otherwise I'm 150% satisfied! BB: what are the next steps for Hemifran. Anything special in mind or something big coming up in the coming years? Peter : As I said, we're hard at work on "I Like It Better Here - More Music From Home" which will see the light of day later this year. For next year, Greg Copeland came up with a brilliant idea; To do a third compilation on the theme "That Thing That's A Whole Lot Bigger Than This - Hymns From Home". So there's a real challenge for us! |
