Retrograde

Retrograde is that kind of movie that you can't really quote it wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't good. The tagline to this movie might sound simple: "Guardians from the future come back to the past to save the world from total annihilation".
The plot is formed around this time travel theme, avoiding techno-babble or deep thoughts on the subject, you can't say the idea and the story around it is bad. The music score is not bad either; especially when the movie is rolling the music blends wonderfully with the action.
But on the other hand, I have to say that the budget must have been very low, since some scenes seem unfinished and FX's aren't that great.
The choice of Dolph Lundgren (John) had me doubting, I feared the worst but after all he did pretty well in this movie. Italian born co-star Silvia De Santis (Renee Diaz) is rather new in the American movie scene but she brings some pretty good moments to this film. (You can also catch her in the latest John Irving movie The Grooming). Together they make this movie worthwhile although it suffers in the hands of director Christopher Kulikowski (the man who brought us the no-budget, no-story sci-fi movie Aurora)

Filmed in Italy & Luxembourg this flick is set on an icebreaker in the Antarctic, where a team of scientists is out to investigate the remains of a comet. At the very same time John and his crew arrive from the future to prevent these scientist finding this deadly comet.
Unbeknownst to John and his crew it is their arrival from the future that causes the findings of the deadly comet, John has to deal with mutinous crewmembers as well as with deadly alien bacteria.

As I said the movie is worthwhile and entertaining and is definitely something you have to pick up when you are into sci-fi / action movies. But take account of the above and one last thing... as with many of these kinds of movies the end sucks, big time.

Released by DFW early June 2005.
