The Lost
A film by Chris Sivertson
on a novel by Jack Ketchum
The lost, based on the Jack Ketchum novel with the same name, is about a group of youngsters who are all lost in one or another way. Lost in their head, lost in their relationships, lost in the past or present, simply stating lost souls…

Ray Pye and his friends Jen & Tim hang around at the campgrounds when Ray, after doing to much booze with his friends, suddenly emerges in a state of ultra violence and kills two campers on a whim. Both Jen & Ray are devastated by the act, but being good friend and out of respect for their 3-year-older friend, they decide to cover up the whole thing and keep their mouths shut.

Four years later and Ray has still not been charged for the murders. Jen & Tim are still his best friends & Tim even helps Ray deal drugs. Detective Charlie Shilling, who was investigating the murders has retired, but somehow he has never stopped looking into the campsite murders. Charlie always suspected Ray’s involvement, but up till now couldn’t prove a thing. With all the new free-time on his hands Charlie Shilling feels the time is ripe to explore his suspicions. He steadily probes the three friends and sets them up against each other.

While reading “The lost”, was haunted by the characters in the book, so much that in the end these persons became almost real individuals to Chris. The characters, combined with the time frame, America in the fifties until now, gave him an almost surreal background for his film, that in good Ketchum tradition delivers more then you ever imagined.

But for us Razor Reel, “The Lost" is also something else… It is the first full-length feature in which Ei Independent Cinema starlets Ruby LaRocca & Misty Mundae star in a more mainstream film. Misty already worked in the Lucky McKee episode of “ The Masters of Horror: Sick Girl ” but this is going to be her debut in a feature film as Erin Brown.
While both Ruby LaRocca & Misty Mundae parts are small and their appearances are brief, this may be the change of work the girls are looking for. Other actors included are (ET, Headspace), Marc Senter ( JAG, The Young and Restless), Shay Astar (Third Rock From the Sun), Alex Frost (Gus Van Sant’s The Elephant), Megan Henning ( Seventh Heaven), Michael Bowen (Kill bill, Jackie Brown, The X-Files, Chips) & Ed Lautor (True Romance, Cujo, E.R.)

The soundtrack is also worth a closer look! With a score coming from Norwegian composer John Kaada & combined with songs contributed by The Ponys, Baseball Furies, Oblivians, The Black Eyed Snakes & Julian Cope’s new band Brain Donor the music seems to be as mortal as the movie.

Hopefully we are able to see the movie soon and give you a full report on it! But chances are big that this film will be one of those movies that feature on cinenygma in Luxembourg later this year, if not BIFFF 2007!
