This is a horror movie people have been talking about for months now. If I have to believe all the stuff Ive read about it, it must be a good, funny and intelligent. Time for us to place a RAZOR ordeal on this much acclaimed horror anthology. The label Shock-O-Rama has released the movie Shock-O-Rama on DVD on the sub-label Pop-cinema (formerly EI-independent cinema). The movie is helmed by Bret Piper (Drainiac, Bite me, Screaming dead) with the usual stock-actors like Misty Mundae, Julian Wells, AJ Cath and Caitlin Ross to name but a few. ![]() Shock-O-Rama has all the ingredients of those old B-movies, including zombies, wacky Sci-Fi, a razor sharp pendulum, maniacal brains and lots of hot women running around half naked screaming their lungs out. What more do you want ah yes a plot. Well even that region is well covered. The film starts of with world famous horror actress Rebecca Raven (played by Misty Mundae). Rebecca has had it with the roles she gets offered. She is fed up with being chased by a dangerous zombie swinging a weedwacker around, but when she demands the studio boss for a raise, he decides to ditch her for a newer, much younger actress. Pissed-off with the complete situation Rebecca leaves town and hires a country house to spent the weekend alone, trying to relax & find some answers. This story starts of Shock-o-rama. Actually the movie includes 3 short films. The three pieces are over the top, hilarious movies, inspired by those crazy B-movies of the past. Going through the leftover reels, the studio comes across, a wacky Sci-Fi action movie including a tripod robot. This first feature is a great tribute to the fifties Sci-Fi. When Rebecca accidentally cuts herself shaving (her legs), her blood miraculously brings a corpse back to well being undead. Armed with a chainsaw she starts to hunt the monster down. This second piece is a splendid zombie flick, which does homage to those seventies movies. In the third and final part we go back to the studio where the executives are still trying to find a starlet for their next film. They find a trailer full of young girls. These girls have volunteered for a sleeping experiment, an experiment that goes horrible wrong when one of the girls dies. Curious about what really went wrong the rest of the girls start an investigation. They discover a hideous, oversized talking brain. ![]() Brett Piper proves that he knows his cult classics. This film is surprisingly funny, well acted and very enjoyable. With Shock-o-rama he gives us an enjoyable, nostalgic look at the bizarre & hilarious world of moviemaking. A world as he also talks about in the interview we posted on our site some time ago. In his next movie Bacterium, Brett is taking this return to fifties cult classics even further. But for now check out Shock-o-rama an excellent and funny cult tribute.---PAT --- ![]() |
