SPLATTER FARM
A film by the Polonia Brothers / Todd Smith
Submitted by Camp Motion Pictures.
Well they did it again… Camp Motion released a film straight from the gutters of Filmland. More specifically originating from the wastelands of eighties independent films. It's a movie so shocking, so gruesome, so terrible that I had the hiccups for more then 3 hours after laughing my pants off. Yes my friends, don’t believe a word what they say about this film, cause there is really nothing shocking to see. Hilarious is the only thing you can say when a young man starts wielding his axe at a bad and cheap life size doll. Welcome to independent cinema in the eighties.

And still we have to bow for the Polonia brothers! Twenty years after this "Splatter Farm" (1987), the guys are still active as directors and are even working on a new feature, called "Splatter beach" that will star Erin Brown ("The Lost") aka Misty Mundae and Erika Smith ("Sinful"). Over the years the Polonia brothers worked on films like "Blood Red Planet" and "Black Mass" (both with John Mcbride) and "The House that Screamed". "Splatter farm" however is from the very beginning (they where like 16 or 18 years old by then) of their career.

The Story:
For the upcoming summer the twin brothers Alan and Joseph are taking a week off on the farm of their aunt. However both Aunt Lacey and her son Jeremy are a couple of fruitcakes. The latter is a psychotic killer, while the aunt is in favour for younger boys and an occasional stint of hilarious necrophilia. All however is done within the margins of good taste. The truth is that if this film would've been made with more money and more experience, that it would have been banned for this and many other reasons, but I assure you there is nothing shocking in this film. If aunt Lacey isn’t drugging her cousin for a good night of freaking sex, she’s out in the barn trying to get laid by her deceased husband. Jeremy is something totally different. He loves the taste of blood, gets his kicks out of torture and occasionally repairs the light bulb in the kitchen. Killing some ponies or torturing his cousin, it is all in the game for Jeremy, who seems never satisfied.

Camp Motion released an re-cut version of the film, adding a revamped soundtrack to it and filled the rest of the DVD with 8mm films from the childhood years of the Polonia Brothers. The film is unintentionally funny and outdated by all standards (it was probably already outdated during shooting) but given the fact that people put together their savings, made a film with a handheld camcorder and succeeded in getting it released is more than many of us can say. Needless to say that (by today standards) the film is total crap and it would have never found a distributor if it was made today. Nevertheless it has been a cult phenomena for years and one that was hard to find as well. Full of first time mistakes, cheap FX and filled with some crazy plot ideas, this movie brings back the joy and spirit of the DIY years of cinema, so put your hands together for Camp Motion and take a deep bow for those independent film makers, cause many of these guys set the tone for the genre as we know it today.
