SPLATTER BEACH
A film by the Polonia Brothers
DVD submitted by Camp Motion Pictures
"Splatter Beach" is the first film produced by the young horror outlet Camp Motion Pictures. The company known for re-releasing eighties classics like "Cannibal Campout" or "Zombie Bloodbath Trilogy" gave the Polonia Brothers the task to make a new in house feature.

The movie is certainly aimed at the B-movie fans, with it references to old monster flicks like "Beast from the Haunted sea", "Monster of the surf" or even "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms". Although heavily inspired on those monster flicks it is also fair to say that the sixties beach films have inspired "Splatter Beach".

The plot takes us to a small beach (probably near a lake) where a group of youngsters have settled for the weekend to hang out and dance on the music of the Riptides (a surf trio who give their best on a beach concert). This of course is excellent turf for the monsters to date, mate and mutilate!
A young couple Tonya (Erika Smith) and Rodney (Brice Kennedy) are going up to this hangout with only a handful of things on their minds. Getting drunk, stoned and laid. A mutual friend Rupert (Dave Five) tags along, but he's joining them for a totally different reason. He's fascinated by the fact that over the last two years lots of people disappeared at that beach. Rupert believes ancient sea monsters have something to do with it. Although nobody believes him, his faith is strengthen when he meets local fruitcake Tess (Erin Brown) who is screaming at the partygoers to leave the beach immediately because the monsters are out there…

"Erika Smith (Shock-O-Rama, Sinful”) in a hot sixties outfit and an outstanding performance by Erin Brown ("Skin Crawl", "Masters Of Horror", and this time without taking of her clothes). Dave Five as college nerd annex wannabe journalist is also believable but Brice Kennedy is often annoying as white boy who wants to be black! I know the man is putting up a comedy act but for some reason this doesn’t work, maybe that's because I'm European. (This is probably the same reason why the English sitcom "Red Dwarf" never worked out in the US).
Directing the feature are the Polonia Brothers who recently saw the re-release of their first commercial made film "Splatter Farm" on Camp Motion DVD. When checking out the two movies it’s obvious that the guys learned a lot over the past 25 years and that their style improved for the better. And did I mention Brett Piper, that loveable man who gave us "Shock-O-Rama" and "Bacterium"? This guy is without doubt one of the last living legends of true special effects. Although only credited as director of photography its so obvious that the man had a hand in this flick.

Packed as a 2 DVD edition, this flick comes with a series of bonuses like commentary tracks, director profiles, interviews, video clips and a Polonia Brothers original : "Hallucinations". The bonus disc is the entire soundtrack to the film including such rarities as John McBrides 'Surfing Cadaver', instrumentals by The Pink Delicates and other tunes 'The Splatter Beach Main Theme' and '486'. If Erika Smith as a hot surf chick, isn’t the reason for you to pick up this film, then the tons of references and influences on the monster flicks of the fifties and sixties will certainly do the trick.
