Rock-it Radio online this week begins a 4 part series on the 50th Anniversary of the day the music died. That fateful plane crash in Clearlake, Iowa in February of 1959 that claimed the lives of the Big Bopper, Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.
This week's show focuses on the wonderful recordings of the Big Bopper - Most everyone would know his big Hit of 'Chantilly Lace' with the famous 'Helllooooo baby!' But he had a string of other songs that you just don't hear on your oldies station today.

Accord in Marilyn Monroe `Last Sitting' photos
NEW YORK – A settlement has been reached in the legal fight over seven nude and semi-nude photographs taken during Marilyn Monroe's "Last Sitting" in 1962.
The pictures were among 2,500 erotic shots Bert Stern took of the movie star for Vogue magazine just before her drug-overdose death that year.
Two photographers approached Stern last year to make a deal involving seven film transparencies from the shoot. Stern sued because he believed the items had been stolen from him.
Photographers Donald Penny and Michael Weiss said another colleague found the transparencies in curbside garbage in Manhattan in the 1970s.

Bop-a-tones, Ace Cafe, 11/01/09
Well the second band this year, if you start counting from twelve o’clock, was a relatively new band, with guys that have been around for quite sometime now. Michel « TEXAS »Texier (the tigermen ) and Patrick Ouchene (the domino’s & runnin’ wild), Marco « SHAKY » Alvarez (the domino’s) at the drums and Lenn Dauphin ( sin alley) on bass.
They opened strong with “ Rampage”, a surf classic, and switched between styles during the gig, from surf to rock’n’roll, rockabilly and even Mexican rock’n’roll.

Monstermash, Geel, 10/01/09
Another great edition of the Monstermash, like always held at Den Boogaard.
We arrived there round 4 o’clock in the afternoon and already the second band was playing. A German band called Nitro 17, to describe this band is rather difficult, it’s some kind of mixture of Hardrock, an emo singer ( we’ll at least he acted that way), a thumping double bass and the guitarplayer of Mad Sin. Not that can really excite me.

New years Eve at the Ace Café.
First of all, my best wishes for 2009, for all of you. Let there be plenty of beer and good music in the coming year.
So back to the last night of the previous year.
Chris had organized a gig of the rockin ace all stars, Mark Sprex on bass and vocals, Patrick Ouchene on guitar and vocals and Hugo , a real rockin legend, on Drums.
There weren't as many folks there as last year, maybe it had something to do with the gig that was organised in Turnhout, altough i heard that the turn out there was as big aswell ( let me know if i heard wrong).

Well things are lookin' pretty busy so far for 'ol Sprexy Boy this year, having joined the ranks of Belgium's busiest hard workin' rockin' band 'Smooth and The Bully Boys' a few months back, the diary is filling up nicely along with regular live gigs with his own 'Rhumba Kings' and session work with the likes of 'Legendary Johnny Trash' and 'Mighty Quiffs' etc etc ...

Dick Clark, 79, is still rockin' New Year's Eve
LOS ANGELES – Four years after a stroke, Dick Clark is relishing the prospect of another New Year's Eve, determined to help host his 36th celebration from Times Square. And he's hardly surprised by the current state of the music industry he helped build — he predicted this, after all.
Clark, who turned 79 last month and has been in front of the cameras for 61 years, said in a recent interview by e-mail that his appearance on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2009," diminished though it may be, is a labor of love and "not really a job."

Eartha Kitt, sultry 'Santa Baby' singer, dies
NEW YORK – Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died, a family spokesman said. She was 81.
Andrew Freedman said Kitt, who was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, died Thursday in Connecticut of colon cancer.
Kitt, a self-proclaimed "sex kitten" famous for her catlike purr, was one of America's most versatile performers, winning two Emmys and nabbing a third nomination. She also was nominated for several Tonys and two Grammys.
