Eartha Kitt, sultry 'Santa Baby' singer, dies
NEW YORK – Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died, a family spokesman said. She was 81.
Andrew Freedman said Kitt, who was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, died Thursday in Connecticut of colon cancer.
Kitt, a self-proclaimed "sex kitten" famous for her catlike purr, was one of America's most versatile performers, winning two Emmys and nabbing a third nomination. She also was nominated for several Tonys and two Grammys.

Three Days Threshold: Ace Cafe 28/12/2008
Another gig in the Ace Cafe: this time it was a band from Boston USA. Almost the last of this year.
The band had a gig at Cooperville around 17h, so they arrived in the Ace Cafe around 19.45. Set up and almost immediately started to play. The first couple of songs weren’t really to my liking, just a bit slow, but maybe this was to recuperate from their previous gig, cause once they hit the third song, it was excellent. Really rocking country and bluegrass was blasting out of the speakers and they had the place on their hands in no time. They even kept on playing till half past 10.
For a few songs they asked some audience participation ... continue reading

Kanye West's Elvis Presley Complex
Los Angeles (E! Online) – As you may have heard, Kanye West announced at the American Music Awards that he wants to be the next Elvis. Then West had to take it even further.
"When I said the statement, 'I want to be Elvis,' I really should have thought that out more because that statement was actually really incorrect," West told E! News' Ryan Seacrest Tuesday. "Actually, the true statement was 'I want to be better than Elvis.' "
So does West have what it takes to get anywhere near Elvis' stratosphere? We talked to some industry insiders to find out...
"Kanye is one of the biggest hip-hop stars in the world right now," ... continue reading

Cadillac Records' plays song you've heard before
Darnell Martin could have made an entire movie about Muddy Waters. Or Etta James. Or Chuck Berry.
Instead, the writer-director has made a movie about all of them with "Cadillac Records," cramming their complicated individual stories into the larger saga of Chicago-based Chess Records, the label that launched those stars and so many others during the 1950s and '60s.
The result feels even more cursory and rushed than the average music biopic, a genre that's already difficult to depict without lapsing into self-parody. (Jake Kasdan, Judd Apatow and Co. had long known that when they made "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.")
It's ... continue reading

Sébi Lee and the Flatfoot Monkeys, Cooperville Turnhout 14/12/2008
After the repellent gig of last week, I was on my way to Cooperville, full of confidence about this gig. I prefer gigs that take place on a Sunday afternoon. Cause when you get a little older and you stay out rockin on a Saturday night until Sunday 3 o’clock in the morning, you tend to walk around like a zombie on Sunday ( you don’t have to be a bit older for that Walter – Bart- ), although you could sleep late. The Cooperville is only 15 km from where I life so it couldn’t’ get any better. I decided to get over there on time, cause the place isn’t really that big. So I had time to seek a good place so I could get a good view. Rockers, who’ve ... continue reading

Sunday 7 December, W2, S’Hertogenbosch ( NL) – The Cherry Poppin Daddies
The Cherry Poppin Daddies where hosted by Radio Modern the previous day, but due to circumstances it was impossible for us to attend this gig. So we figure we’d go to Holland the next day. The location was a youth club, that was made in a old building of the Willem II cigar factory. When it says youth club I’m always a bit cautious, because they tend to mix up Rock’n’roll with hard rock sometimes. We were reassured the moment we saw a bunch of quiffs entering the building, and some chicks with 50’s attributes. The main advantage was the lay out of the place, there was a cosy salon, next to the hall where the gig would take place, where you could ... continue reading

Lee Gocher & The Sundowners @ Ace Cafe Rumst 13/12/2008
Another gig at the Ace Cafe on a Saturday night. Not many people there, guess there was too much going on. But then again if you get the change to see a rockabilly legend, plus this was their only gig in Belgium, instead of a band you can see almost every weekend. I don’t really understand why the turn up was so little. But this was the case, never the less it was a great gig, I dare to say one of the best I’ve seen this year. Those who missed it will have to wait till the next time these guys will visit our small country. Like said the Sundowners have been around for quite some time now, and it showed. You couldn’t tell this from looking at ... continue reading

Bettie Page passed away
Bettie Page passed away at 6:41pm December 11 in a Los Angles hospital. She died peacefully but had never regained consciousness after suffering a heart attack nine days before. She captured the imagination of a generation of men and women with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality. She is the embodiment of beauty and the symbol of the pinup-culture.
