£24,000 FOR 'ELVIS'
A ROMAN marble head that looks like Elvis – right down to the quiff – was sold for £24,000 at auction yesterday.
The 13-inch carving, which came from a 2nd century AD sarcophagus, was bought by an unnamed collector at a Bonhams sale in London.
Antiquities specialist Georgiana Aitken said: “It bears an uncanny likeness to Elvis. It’s the quiff that does it. It wasn’t a hairstyle of the day as far as I know

Are you Roman tonight? Statue of 'Elvis' chiselled 1800 years before his birth goes under the hammer
With his dashing chiselled features, swept back hair and perky bouffant the resemblance is unmistakable.
But incredibly this carving of Elvis Presley was created around 1800 years before the King of Rock and Roll first warbled his first note.
The amazing likeness has come to light as part of a sale of ancient antiques by the auction house Bonhams.
The Roman Elvis is in fact a genuine marble acroterion - a kind of architectural ornament often found for decoration on the corners of a sarcophagus, a stone tomb or burial chamber.

LOS ANGELES—Neal Hefti, a Big Band trumpeter, arranger and composer of themes for the movie "The Odd Couple" and the "Batman" television series, has died. He was 85.

Alton Ellis, RIP
Reggae music pioneer Alton Ellis, known as the godfather of rocksteady, has died at the age of 70 in London, England.
Officials at Hammersmith Hospital announced Sunday morning that Ellis, who had cancer of the lymph glands, died peacefully Friday night after he had been hospitalized for several weeks.
"His life was the music and the stage," said his manager Trish De Rosa.
"He was getting a tremendous amount of work right up to the end — it was very difficult to get him to slow down.

Woman claims she has evidence proving she is Elvis' half sister
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Mid-South woman claims she's Elvis Presley's half-sister and says she has the DNA to prove it.
The woman, Eliza A. Presley, recently filed a petition to reopen the estate of Elvis Presley's father. The petition states Eliza is the daughter of Vernon Elvis Presley, and therefore should have a share in his estate.
Donald Yates, Owner of DNA Testing Systems in Scottsdale, Arizona, said Tuesday that he has worked on the case for five years, and is "99.99 percent sure" that Eliza and Elvis are half-siblings.

Judge rules woman can make claim to Presley estate
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis judge ruled today a woman claiming to be Elvis Presley's half sister could make a claim to Vernon Presley's estate.
The attorney representing Elvis Presley's interests said the claim will not get her anywhere.
A woman who changed her name to Eliza Presley testified in court Wednesday that she has DNA evidence that Vernon Presley, Elvis' Father, is her father.
Eliza Presley's attorney said the DNA evidence is reliable.
"They've been tested in and retested by various labs and proof is conclusive," Eliza Presley's attorney Kathleen Caldwell said.
