`Twist' named top song of Billboard Hot 100 era
NEW YORK – How's this for a twist: Of all the No. 1 songs in the 50 years of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Chubby Checker's "The Twist" ranks as the most popular single.
Elvis and the Beatles didn't even make the top five.
Checker's ranking may come as a surprise to some, but not to the classic rocker.
"I'm glad they've finally recognized it," said Checker of his early 1960s hit.
He compared "The Twist" — named by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum as one of the 500 songs that shaped rock 'n' roll — to the creation of the telephone as a groundbreaking moment because he said it was the first time people ... continue reading

George Jones' Kennedy Center honors
By April MacIntyre Sep 10, 2008, 2:47 GMT
Country music legend George Jones is a 2008 Kennedy Center Honoree.
Jones, who has been called, the "greatest living country singer," earned his reputation by diving so deeply into a song's lyrics that compelled an emotional connection to the song and the singer.
The country singer first hit the charts in 1955 and since then has won two Grammys, numerous CMA and ACM Awards, has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
He still headlines nearly 100 shows a year.

The Stray Cats – 09/09/08 AB Brussels
Last night it was time to head over to Brussels for the supposedly last concert of the Stray Cats, maybe in a few years we can go see the reunion tour, just like them old-timers, with a large tongue, from England do.
The gig last night was sold out in e few days after tickets where available, so we were prepared for a lot of people there. A good thing we were, cause it was crowded as hell. Maybe Vorst Nationaal wouldn’t have been a bad idea to do the Farewell tour. But downside of Vorst is the bad acoustic environment, so maybe we’re better of cramped up but with good acoustics.
The gig started on time and as opener Buzz Campbell and ... continue reading

Rumours about the Cruise Inn
Howdie!
Rumours are spreading that the Cruise Inn will close its doors after D-Day 2009!
NOT TRUE!!!
Financially we are doing not so good as before and that's why we chose to be open once a month from now on. All this is unfortunately necassary cause of not enough paying visitors and most likely the interest in coming to our famous club.
There are too many gigs all over the place and somehow people decide to stay home on the couch or to go somewhere else........
Once again........the Cruise Inn WILL NOT close after D-Day 2009.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO ROCK AS LONG AS FINANCIALLY POSSIBLE!!!
I ... continue reading

Eric Laufer of the Two Timin' Three
I was shocked to learn today that Eric Laufer of the Two Timin' Three (and Four) died last night in a motorcycle accident. Eric was a friend, and I am a big fan of his band. My thoughts go out to all of his friends and family.
On May 25, 2007, the Two Timin' Four played live on my radio show. Although the studio conditions were primitive, they gave a fine performance.
I just reposted an MP3 of it at

Marilyn Monroe film footage found in Australia
CANBERRA (Reuters) – An amateur film of Marilyn Monroe on the set of "Some Like It Hot" has surfaced in Australia almost 50 years after it was shot and is being put up for auction.
Auctioneer Charles Leski said the 2.5-minute-long, 8mm film shows Monroe and co-star Tony Curtis on the set ahead of shooting a beach scene in which the actress is bouncing balls to get the actor's attention.
The footage, which also shows director Billy Wilder, was taken in early 1959 by a U.S. naval officer who was invited to the set of the movie after Monroe visited his base in San Diego.
The film, ... continue reading
