Domestic Bumblebees, Harmonica Sam, Boppin' Steve at "the Rambler" Eindhoven (june 15, 2008)
Last sunday I went to see those Swedish guys in Eindhoven.
For € 5 the rather small crowd gets a three group package.
First the Domestic Bumblebees played the songs of their CD Break up bop.
After a short break Harmonica Sam amused the crowd with his songs and everybody sang along with real gone lover.
After another break Boppin' Steve sets the place on fire, with songs like Come what may, Crazy arms, Whole lotta shakin', I'm on fire, Wild one, Great balls of fire .....
Of course the crowd wanted more ...
Go see them if you get the chance, you won't regret it

357 String band @ Ace Café 24 May 2008
Another concert review i almost forgot to write.
The 357 Stringband in the Ace Cafe organized by Tom & Erwin.
Normally this gig would take place in “ Den Bromfiets” in Bonheiden, but due to a cycling event, the gig was moved to the Ace Café. Instead of the sombrero a small entrance fee was asked.
The 357 Stringband is defiantly something to see. 4 Guys that you wouldn’t think are in a band together, joined each other in a band that plays something that would best be described as Bluegrass on speed or as they band likes to call it 'amphetamine-fueled mountain music'. It’s kind of a mix between old-punk, bluegrass, some Irish influences  ... continue reading

“Tony Joe White, he’s the real deal.” -- Stephen Malkmus

NASHVILLE, TN – Tony Joe White, whose 1969 hit “Polk Salad Annie” introduced the world to the funky, country-blues groove known as “swamp rock”, reprises some of his classic songs for modern times with Deep Cuts, out on Swamp Records, June 10.

The record is the 21st release of White’s 40-year career and features some of the songwriter’s most decidedly vivid storytelling in songs which date back to the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. White and his son Jody cut these classic songs utilizing a palette full of beats and loops, samples, digital and live drums, strings and organs.  ... continue reading

23th of May: The Big Four @ Radio Modern
This report was send in sometime ago by JW, but due to a busy schedule, I just got round to translating it, so enjoy.

- Jack -

A little oblivion, to order tickets at “ The Roma” in Borgerhout for a previous Radio Modern Gig, a month ago was ill-fated and we couldn’t enter the Hall back then.
So on the 23th of May at “ The Vooruit” in Ghent was the time to do some damage control. On stage that night: The Big Four. On our arrival we were warmly greeted by” Den Ben”, the life and soul of these events. A hall with character, decorate in a 40’s – 50’s style and everybody dressed up and a make-up room for the ladies. As common  ... continue reading

Chuck Berry won't sing for "Johnny" in election
By Fernanda Ezabella
Mon Jun 9, 6:32 PM ET

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Republican candidate John McCain may have used his song in the U.S. presidential campaign, but veteran rock 'n' roller Chuck Berry has no doubt whom he wants to see in the White House next year.

"America has finally come to this point where you can pick a man of color and that not be a drawback," the legendary 81-year-old guitarist said of Barack Obama, who clinched the Democratic presidential nomination last week and would become the country's first black president if he wins in November.

"It's no question, myself being a man of color ... I mean,  ... continue reading

Screamin' Weekender
I was on the Screamin' Weekender in Pineda de Mar for the first time but certainly not for the last time.
The festival is well organised ( some things can be better in the future for instance the number of toilets), but there were good dj's between the gigs and the line-up was fantastic.
Already the pre-party was fabulous with The Lucky Bullets and specially The Lazy Boys.
At the festival itself The Lustre Kings were hired as the houseband for Betsy Dawn Williams and Wanda Jackson.
And the different members of the group played a solo-gig as well.
And of course Wanda Jackson (and the Lustre Kings) and The Teenagers sets  ... continue reading

Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n' roll whose distinctive "shave and a haircut, two bits" rhythm and innovative guitar effects inspired legions of other musicians, died Monday after months of ill health. He was 79.
