Les Mecs Du Nord : 19/05/2008 Airbag Festival Bruges.
Hailing from Ghent, Les Mecs Du Nord, were one of the highlights I was looking forward to on the Bruges Airbag Festival. With influences that go as far as Charles Trennet and Georges Brassens but also spawn traces of The Pogues, Sixteen Horsepower and Tom Waits this band successfully blends chanson with Western Swing, Jugband and a Punk Rock attitude.

“Les Mecs Dus Nors” Bring their tunes in either English or French but always in a pleasant and enthusiast way. Full of passion at times, subdued at others, but always atmospheric, this band brought us some glorious moments. Squeezeboxmen, Mal-Entendu , The Same Mistakes and many others  ... continue reading

HOMEMADE HILLBILLY JAM
A Musical Romp Through the Ozark Mountains with a Handful of Rascally Modern-Day Hillbillies
Info submitted by First Run Features

In the 1800s a scrappy group of Scotch-Irish immigrants settled in the Ozark Mountains of Southwestern Missouri. Stereotyped as poor, lawless degenerates, these isolated hill folk over time became the butt of countless jokes and earned themselves the name “hillbillies.”

This enjoyable documentary captures the rich and wonderful sounds of “hillbilly” music by following three families of modern-day hillbillies back to the roots of their music-making heritage. Leading the pack is singer/songwriter Mark Bilyeu from the band Big Smith, who has been delighting audiences around the world with his foot-stompin’ repertoire of songs, including  ... continue reading

SAD NEWS!! THE END OF BELGOBILLY IS NEAR!
Due to my busy professional working schedule, I don't have the free time anymore to update and work on this Belgobilly website. So, sadly enough, I decided to stop spending time on the website. I already got rid of the recordreviews and pictures section. By the end of 2008 the whole site will be gone.

The Battle Royal festival in Oostmalle on May 31st will be the last concert I organize, not because I don't like it, but basically because I can't find the time anymore to keep myself busy with it. This doesn't mean that the Battle Royal festival and the Winter Rumble gigs at Malmejo in Oostmalle will disappear too. I know for sure the  ... continue reading

Little Kim & the Alley Apple 3
Little Kim & the Alley Apple 3 ... a fresh new band from the outskirts of Assenede that brings you vintage styled Western Swing ...

Selim Meiresonne (bull fiddle) and Tom De Poorter (guitar) know each other from projects such as "The Rocka-T-Bones" en "Calicoba" and decided to hit the road with some new songs ... Western Swing style ... played like it was meant to be played: no frills, no gimmicks, no drums, ... Just pure melodies that can’t seem to get out of your head. Together they got in touch with the boy wonder of lap steel guitar: Patrick Cattoir ... well known in Belgium and far beyond for his escapades with "Those Metal Boys  ... continue reading

Chris Watson @ Afkick Elastiek Festival, Hilvarenbeek( NL) 11/05/2008
A bright blue sky and a burning sun are always guaranteed to bring out a lot of curious people on festivals. A full tent was the consequence.
Chris Watson had all the cards to make it a splendid gig. To my great shame I must admit that I haven’t see this guy perform before, nevertheless he’s been performing for a few years now.
After spending a few weeks in the Sun Studios, recording his new cd, this Walloon returned to Europe. I was told that he changed his look as well, his opulent hair changed into a quiff. His appearance was a great success, to say the least. This boogie woogie pianist, accompanied by a drummer and a upright bass  ... continue reading

Sinnerbash 10/05/2008
Not as many people as one might expect nor as Angelo Von Zelli from Sinner
Supply, Antwerp's # 1 rockin' shop, had hoped for with a bill that featured 2
favorite local bands + 1 new band from Switserland, but what can one do about
that ? Was it the good weather ? Was everybody out BBQ-ing ? Are we spoiled for
choice with so many concerts and festivals ? Which bands guarantee a full house
? Does the public say : "oh well, we've seen Johnny Trash and Clark & the Aces
so many times already, and we never heard of Slam & Howie so we don't bother" ?
Like Ricky Nelson said : you can't please everybody so you gotta please
yourself.  ... continue reading

Country music superstar Eddy Arnold dies at 89
By JOHN GEROME, Associated Press Writer
Thu May 8, 7:27 PM ET

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Eddy Arnold, whose mellow baritone on songs like "Make the World Go Away" made him one of the most successful country singers in history, died Thursday morning, days short of his 90th birthday.

Arnold died at a care facility near Nashville, said Don Cusic, a professor at Belmont University and author of the biography "Eddy Arnold: I'll Hold You in My Heart." His wife of 66 years, Sally, had died in March, and in the same month, Arnold fell outside his home, injuring his hip.

Arnold's vocals on songs like the 1965 "Make the  ... continue reading
