Chuck Berry won't sing for "Johnny" in election
By Fernanda Ezabella
Mon Jun 9, 6:32 PM ET
SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Republican candidate John McCain may have used his song in the U.S. presidential campaign, but veteran rock 'n' roller Chuck Berry has no doubt whom he wants to see in the White House next year.
"America has finally come to this point where you can pick a man of color and that not be a drawback," the legendary 81-year-old guitarist said of Barack Obama, who clinched the Democratic presidential nomination last week and would become the country's first black president if he wins in November.
"It's no question, myself being a man of color ... I mean, ... continue reading

Behind-the-scenes Monroe film is up for auction

Two reels of silent, 8-millimeter color film titled "On Set With 'The Misfits'" is going on the auction block, with bids starting between $10,000 and $20,000. Julien's Auctions is listing the 47-minute film next month at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
According to the Julien's Auctions Web site, it's the original film by amateur photographer Stanley Floyd Kilarr, who shot scenes of the stars and crew during the making of "The Misfits" — the final completed film for both its stars, Monroe and Clark ... continue reading

Screamin' Weekender
I was on the Screamin' Weekender in Pineda de Mar for the first time but certainly not for the last time.
The festival is well organised ( some things can be better in the future for instance the number of toilets), but there were good dj's between the gigs and the line-up was fantastic.
Already the pre-party was fabulous with The Lucky Bullets and specially The Lazy Boys.
At the festival itself The Lustre Kings were hired as the houseband for Betsy Dawn Williams and Wanda Jackson.
And the different members of the group played a solo-gig as well.
And of course Wanda Jackson (and the Lustre Kings) and The Teenagers sets ... continue reading

Bo Diddley Dead
Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n' roll whose distinctive "shave and a haircut, two bits" rhythm and innovative guitar effects inspired legions of other musicians, died Monday after months of ill health. He was 79.
Diddley died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Fla., spokeswoman Susan Clary said. He had suffered a heart attack in August, three months after suffering a stroke while touring in Iowa. Doctors said the stroke affected his ability to speak, and he had returned to Florida to continue rehabilitation.
The legendary singer and performer, known for his homemade square guitar, dark glasses and black hat, ... continue reading

Les Mecs Du Nord : 19/05/2008 Airbag Festival Bruges.
Hailing from Ghent, Les Mecs Du Nord, were one of the highlights I was looking forward to on the Bruges Airbag Festival. With influences that go as far as Charles Trennet and Georges Brassens but also spawn traces of The Pogues, Sixteen Horsepower and Tom Waits this band successfully blends chanson with Western Swing, Jugband and a Punk Rock attitude.
“Les Mecs Dus Nors” Bring their tunes in either English or French but always in a pleasant and enthusiast way. Full of passion at times, subdued at others, but always atmospheric, this band brought us some glorious moments. Squeezeboxmen, Mal-Entendu , The Same Mistakes and many others ... continue reading

HOMEMADE HILLBILLY JAM
A Musical Romp Through the Ozark Mountains
with a Handful of Rascally Modern-Day Hillbillies
Info submitted by First Run Features
In the 1800s a scrappy group of Scotch-Irish immigrants settled in the Ozark Mountains of Southwestern Missouri. Stereotyped as poor, lawless degenerates, these isolated hill folk over time became the butt of countless jokes and earned themselves the name “hillbillies.”
This enjoyable documentary captures the rich and wonderful sounds of “hillbilly” music by following three families of modern-day hillbillies back to the roots of their music-making heritage. Leading the pack is singer/songwriter Mark Bilyeu from the band Big Smith, who has been delighting audiences around the world with his foot-stompin’ repertoire of songs, including ... continue reading

SAD NEWS!! THE END OF BELGOBILLY IS NEAR!
Due to my busy professional working schedule, I don't have the free time anymore to update and work on this Belgobilly website. So, sadly enough, I decided to stop spending time on the website. I already got rid of the recordreviews and pictures section. By the end of 2008 the whole site will be gone.
The Battle Royal festival in Oostmalle on May 31st will be the last concert I organize, not because I don't like it, but basically because I can't find the time anymore to keep myself busy with it. This doesn't mean that the Battle Royal festival and the Winter Rumble gigs at Malmejo in Oostmalle will disappear too. I know for sure the ... continue reading

Little Kim & the Alley Apple 3
Little Kim & the Alley Apple 3 ... a fresh new band from the outskirts of Assenede that brings you vintage styled Western Swing ...
Selim Meiresonne (bull fiddle) and Tom De Poorter (guitar) know each other from projects such as "The Rocka-T-Bones" en "Calicoba" and decided to hit the road with some new songs ... Western Swing style ... played like it was meant to be played: no frills, no gimmicks, no drums, ... Just pure melodies that can’t seem to get out of your head. Together they got in touch with the boy wonder of lap steel guitar: Patrick Cattoir ... well known in Belgium and far beyond for his escapades with "Those Metal Boys ... continue reading
