Rockin Bowl 12/04/2008 @ Antwerp Bowling
For the sixth time in a row, Sam and Rudy organised another edition of the Rockin Bowl. And like always they did a great job.
On stage this time: The Hometown Gamblers, a band that needs no further introduction and from the Netherlands: Mischief.
Opening the night The Hometown Gamblers, we got there around 21u30, so we only saw a few numbers of these guys, but like always they had a very tight sounding set, but we would see them back later in the evening.
In between gigs, Dj Big Ben, entertained the audience and the bowlers with some great rocking and swinging tunes.
Didn’t see what time they started but the second band took  ... continue reading

Hawkins' lands key to the city
A hero, mentor, teacher, close friend; the house wife's companion; the man who danced like Elvis Presley did, moonwalked before Michael Jackson and will always be the King of Rockabilly; Mr. Ronnie Hawkins now officially owns a golden key to the City of Peterborough.
More than 150 guests gathered for great music, food and drink at the Evinrude Centre Saturday (April 5) for the seventh Mayor's Dinner and Homegrown Homes fundraiser.
Rockabilly king Hawkins was also celebrating his 50th year in Canada and being honoured by roasters and toasters for his contributions in the community, most notably the 2004 flood relief concert and Festival  ... continue reading

Kim Lenz New record in the works!
It's official! I'm recording my first new record since 1999. I've assembled the old crew - Nick Curran on guitar - Jake Erwin on bass and Scotty Tecce on drums. Billy Horton of Fort Horton is engineering. We just laid down the band tracks last week at Joey Altruda's place in Hollywood and I couldn't resist posting a rough mix of one of our new songs even though it doesn't have vocals yet... scroll down to the bottom of my songs and take a listen if you like... it's a stroller called "That's the Breaks" that I wrote with Big Sandy! I'll repost it again in a few weeks after I get the vocals recorded.

Yee-haw rockabilly in progress!
Thanks  ... continue reading

New photos of Elvis in 1972 surface
NEW YORK - Never-before-seen photos have surfaced of Elvis Presley rocking Madison Square Garden in all his jumpsuited glory. The images were taken in 1972 by George Kalinsky, the official photographer of the famed arena, the singer's estate said Wednesday.

Kalinsky came across the photos while working on a campaign for a billboard company called "Great Moments in New York." Now one of them is on display as part of the campaign on a three-story billboard atop the Virgin Megastore in Times Square; it shows The King glancing up, his outstretched arms holding the cape of his glittering jumpsuit.

Kalinsky needed to get permission  ... continue reading

Ben Cooper Rockin @ Ace Cafe 06/04/2008
Last night in the ace cafe, a neo rockabilly legend, Ben Cooper, in the 80’s one of the founding members of Restless and one of the major songwriters, he wrote” Vanished without a trace”, most of the bands second album “ Do you feel Restless” and the opening track to the first album: “ It’s a scam”. So I guess that qualifies him as a true neo rockabilly pioneer. Therefore it was a bit of a surprise that the turn out last night wasn’t that big. But never the less that couldn’t stop these guys, Ben Cooper on vocals, Mark Palmer on Double bass and Russel Lax on Drums, from rockin out the place with some very great songs. They played true neo rockabilly  ... continue reading

RIP Glenn Barber
Tom Ingram informs that Glenn Barber died from an apparent heart attack on March
28 while holding his guitar practising for his upcoming Viva Las Vegas show.
Barber was born on February 2 1935 and recorded excellent rockabilly sides like
Ice Water (1954) and Shadow My Baby (1956). In the sixties he became a deejay
and in the seventies he had quite a career as a country singer, charting in
total 21 times. On August 22 2006 he suffered a congestive heart attack and
kidney failure.
