Lawen Stark & The Slide Boppers @ Posthuis, Wuustwezel (B) 10 november 2007
A pub crawl with no interesting bands except Lawen Stark & The Slide Boppers gave us a good excuse to spend 3 Lawen Stark sets in Café Posthuis in Wuustwezel, where like 15 years ago we saw Wildfire Willie and 42nd Street. Man, we're getting old :-)
I was looking forward to see Lawen Stark with their new guitar slinger Mario Mattucci of The Be-Bop's, but due to other commitments he couldn't make the gig and had been replaced by Patrick Ouchène, whose crunchy guitar sound suited their white rock style well. As this was a last minute solution they'd only had time to rehearse some 15 songs, so the guitar parts were a bit ad-lib and a lotta songs ... continue reading

Country singer Hank Thompson dies at 82
DALLAS - Hank Thompson, who mixed honky-tonk and Western swing on such hits as "A Six Pack to Go" and "The Wild Side of Life," has died. The country singer and bandleader was 82.
Thompson died of lung cancer late Tuesday at his home in the Fort Worth suburb of Keller, said spokesman Tracy Pitcox, who is also president of Heart of Texas Records. He died just days after canceling his tour and announcing his retirement.
"He was battling aggressive lung cancer," Pitcox said Wednesday in a statement. "He remained conscious until the last couple of hours and passed away peacefully at about 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday night surrounded ... continue reading

Cajun Sunday
The First Billybop Roots Sunday was without doubt a success. Cajun Sunday with the Flemish Big Bayou Bandits and the Louisiana Lost Bayou Ramblers became a 5-hour long party filled with a dancing audience, great music and some occasional beers.
The Big Bayou Bandits, who earlier this year where the support act of the Zydoco master CJ Chenier and his band opened the party last Sunday and in no time some people where dancing on their Cajun spiced Rock & Roll. With a musical set ranging from pure Cajun, over Rock and roll to some rockabilly and even a Tex-Mex tune this band certainly know how to throw in a party. Immediately followed ... continue reading

Crazy Cadillac - Hilvarenbeek 4/11/2007
Rock ‘n Roll has a great variation of bands and sounds, and we like to taste them all. So we decided to drive up to “Gouden Carolus” Pub in Hilvarenbeek (NL) to check out the well-known Dutch band “Crazy Cadillac”. The ensemble came on stage dressed in glittering suits and black and white shoes. There were 2 guitarists, a saxophonist, drummer, singer and… 2 Go-Go-girls. The band really captured that Rock ‘n Roll spirit of fun and humor, poured with a sauce of fun and ‘joie de vivre’. A self-assured singer interacts with the crowd in a very direct way, as did the other members of the band. You could see they were enjoying themselves as they really ... continue reading

The Hometown Gamblers @ Den Bromfiets 4/11/2007
Due to circumstances we couldn’t make it to the Cajun Sunday in Oostkamp, so instead we went to the Gig in Den Bromfiets, by the time we got there, there where a lot of familiar faces around.
The Hometown Gamblers a band that needs no introduction, came from over the water and entertained the audience with their old school rockabilly, the style that they play so well.
After sorting out a few problems with the pa installation in the beginning of the gig, the time had come for the Gamblers to give it all they got. I’m always amazed of the playing style and skills of Guy on the doghouse. Just a little fact we found out: the reverb ... continue reading

Wanted: Bands
Howdy,
I'm planning to organise a benefit-concert for Marieke 'Wielemie' Vervoort. She's a girl in a wheelchair - she has a verry rare disease - and her condition is slowly going backwards.
But she's a tough one, so she didn't let her head hang down.
And she is beginning a new career as triathlon-athlete.
Because the Belgian government does not promote (financial) disabled persons, I am organising - for the 2nd time - a rockabilly/surf/roots/... benefit-concert somewhere in april 2008.
The venue will be in Schaffen or Halen in Belgium.
So, if you want to participate freely for this concert, mail me at: ... continue reading

Ray Collins Hot Club 27/10/2007 Teuven.
As a passionate Jive- devotee I couldn't pass by this great opportunity. This Ray Collins gig staged by radio modern was a sure winner.
Teuven is a calm village in the Belgian Voer-region. The ballroom “Patria” still breathes that fifties atmosphere, time seems to have stopped here, wooden floor, stained glass windows and even an old picture of the late Belgian King Boudewijn on the wall. We took in the nostalgic ambience by taken a delicious soup near the fireplace in the connecting restaurant. Just warming up to what would be a fiery experience.
We were welcomed with a movie, playing from one of those old film projectors with those ... continue reading
