Brian Setzer rushed to Albuquerque hospital
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Three-time Grammy Award-winner Brian Setzer was rushed to an Albuquerque-area hospital after cutting short a concert.
Setzer, former frontman of the Stray Cats, had performed three Christmas-themed songs with his Brian Setzer Orchestra when he left the stage Monday night during a sold-out concert at Isleta Resort and Casino.
A publicist for Setzer didn't immediately respond to phone and e-mail messages left by The Associated Press.
An announcer came on stage about 9 p.m. and announced that Setzer had been taken to an undisclosed hospital.

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going
CLARKSDALE, Miss. – Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins.
It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and eases into a wail about hard times and treacherous women.
Perkins is believed to be the oldest of the old-time Delta blues musicians still performing. In an 80-year career, he's traveled through juke joints, nightclubs and festival stages shared with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy Williamson and Muddy Waters.
In a telephone interview after a gig a week before Thanksgiving at a jazz ... continue reading

First gig of "The Wild Deuces"
Sundaynight we were invited by Bart (Jack) to come to see the first gig of the band "The Wild Deuces" in which he plays double bass.
When we arrived there the bar was crowded! We saw some people we already met before, but also a lot of unknown faces. The reason, the guys from the band invited all their friends and relatives through Facebook.
At 19h30 the band started.By the first songs I was surprised. This wasn't bad at all.Really good for a first gig,or even just good!! The singer has a good voice.Only that two songs,in my opinion didn't fit him to well. But that might be just me.The rest of the guys also did a great job.Looks and sounds ... continue reading

My wish came true.
Cliff Richard and the Shadows in Vorst nationaal on the 8th of november 2009.
To see Cliff Richard and the Shadows life on stage has always been one of my
cherished dreams. As a young boy I regularly visited the funfairs in Antwerp in the
early sixties.
The dodgems were my favourite place. While the juke box played Cliff and the Shadows
'do you wanna dance or nine times out of ten', I rammed the other bumping cars.
Cliff's image was then painted on the canvas, beside Elvis and they both seemed to
enjoy our fun.
Cliff also makes me think of the evenings I spent, when studying.
Sunday 8 november was the big day. Cliff and the Shadows came to Vorst Nationaal. To
me an exceptional opportunity, ... continue reading

The Defibulators @ Ace Cafe Rumst 01/11/2009
On Sunday it was time for another gig at the Ace Café. The Defibulators from NYC playing a cross over between roots, bluegrass, rockabilly and punk. The band consists of 7 members, two of them only known by their nickname: Roadblock on guitar and Metalbelly on various instruments, ranging from bluesharp to Washboard. A few of the songs I recall: “The Gravy Shake”, an instrumental , and very unusual sound, some sort of surf but with a fiddle complimenting the twangy guitarplaying of Roadblock. “ The songs that I shall not tell it’s name”, it actually is a pop quiz when they play it, a very nice cover of a 80’s song about a man. “ Ol’ Winchester” ... continue reading

Mark & The Slumdogs @ Ace Cafe Rumst 30/10/2009
A rare occasion at the Ace Cafe. Mr. Mark Pennington was here to perform with his side project: Mark & The Slumdogs. A slight change in the band since the last time i saw them. On bass Mr Hometown Guy, filling in for Mr. Fantomas, who has recently moved to the States. Guy did an awesome job, playing a lot faster then he’s used too. As you might or might not know, this band is advertised as a semi acoustic Trio. What that actually means is the Mark P. is playing on a semi acoustic guitar, but he still manages to get out some very rockin sounds. Behind the skins a familiar face, Mr. Mark Sprex
The band played for about 1 hour and it was just ... continue reading

Sun Studio NEwsletter
Hello from Memphis!
We just wanted to take a moment to catch up with you about what has
been going on around Sun and also to introduce you to our new website!
John Mellencamp used a couple of off days during his tour with Willie
Nelson and Bob Dylan to come by Sun Studio and record 9 songs for his
upcoming album, entitled “No Better Than This”. John, who was
accompanied by legendary producer T-Bone Burnett, was quoted by writer
Jelisa Castrodale as saying “It was the most fun I’ve ever had making
a record”. We like the sound of that.

Chicago photographer and superfan Jennifer Greenburg spent seven years capturing rockabilly hep cats and kittens for an upcoming book.
When Jennifer Greenburg was four, she loved to imagine herself in the ’50s-era photos decorating her grandparents’ Hyde Park apartment. But it wasn’t until 1999, when the 32-year-old artist was working on her M.F.A. at the University of Chicago, that she discovered not only were there people who shared her passion for 1950s American music and fashion, there was even a name for them: rockabillies. Over the next several years, Greenburg photographed dozens of her rockabilly friends, celebrating their glamorous outfits, carefully furnished period homes and customized vintage cars. We recently met Greenburg near her Rogers Park studio to discuss ... continue reading
