Bigger. Better. More to SCREAM about! - SCREAMIN 2008
It's Screamin's 10th anniversary and we plan to give you the biggest best festival this side of the Rio Grande. In order to do this we have had to move the festival to a new location. Where you might ask? Not far at all! We are moving the festival just next door to the town of Pineda de Mar where we have been promised unequalled support from the town including lots of exclusive goodies for our festival goers. It was a hard decision to make - we literally had several towns asking for the festival but in the end Pineda had everything we could ask for - superb facilities and modern conveniences along with maintaining that "village" feel so many ... continue reading

Spirit of 66 needs your help
We need your help !
It’s kind of easy to understand that running a club as the Spirit of 66 is not an easy task every day.
During these 12 years, we’ve often had some difficult periods.. with up and downs in our shows attendances.
And now, once again we are completely “down’”… very few people came to our shows these last weeks.
Yesterday evening we had only 18 visitors for the fantastic LARRY MILLER show…
this is really frustrating for such a good show !
The only solution for us to get out of this new hole is to increase our promotion to get some new visitors.
After a while, some of our regular visitors get ... continue reading

'ROC' IS STILL ROLLING
Roger LaRue is back in the music business - after learning he's a rockabilly legend
Roger LaRue didn't even know he was famous.
Sure, he'd cut a few songs back in the 1950s when he fronted a rock 'n' roll band. He had the look: young and thin, dark hair slicked back. He had a great stage name: Roc LaRue. He even had that Elvis sneer and shake when he wanted to.
He became something of a star in the Northeast for a couple of years. But that was so long ago, when he was still in his teens. He'd quit the music business decades ago and moved on to real life: wife, kids, a career designing plumbing systems for ships.
Then ... continue reading

'Lost' Monroe dresses put on show
A collection of dresses worn by Marilyn Monroe is going on show in the UK for the first time.
They include the white dress whose skirt was blown up by the breeze from a New York subway in The Seven Year Itch.
The pink satin dress worn when Monroe sang Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is also in the exhibition.
The six dresses are going on show at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel in aid of Alzheimer's charities.
They are part of the private collection of Oscar-winning costume designer William Travilla, who kept them under lock and key to protect Monroe's memory.
Following ... continue reading

The Alkali Flats, 30/09/2007 @ Ace Cafe Rumst.
Yet again another American band that had the last gig of their European tour in the Ace Cafe.
These guys from Sacramento California played 2 sets of Hillbilly Music and Western Swing, on their set list were songs like: “ Luxury Liner”, “ Too Lazy”, “ Race is on”, “ Sin City”, “ I saw the light”, “ Heartaches by the number ”, “ Bloody Lamb”, “ Charmin Betsy”, “ She thinks”, “ Possum”, “ Jambalaya”, “ Folsom prison Blues”. It wasn’t much of an up-tempo gig, but a bit softer with great vocals.
The bass and Rhythm guitar often changed between Tim White and Chris Harvey and these guys had the minimalist drum set i’ve ever seen, but that doesn’t ... continue reading

Setzer rocks the classics
MINNEAPOLIS - After recharging rockabilly with the Stray Cats in the 1980s, then helping spark a swing revival in the '90s, Brian Setzer is going even further back in musical history on his latest CD — 200 years back, to be exact.
On "Wolfgang's Big Night Out," out this week, the Brian Setzer Orchestra gives a big-band beat to the classics. Led by the blond, pompadoured Setzer and his twanging Gretsch guitar, the 18-piece band jazzes up everything from Beethoven's Fifth Symphony (renaming it "Take the 5th") to Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" (complete with cannon fire, just like the original score).
To Setzer, the long-haired ... continue reading
