Concert Review: The Hometown Gamblers @ The Friends Mechelen 18/11/06
We were quite surprised when we heard that there was a rockabilly gig in Mechelen again.
Hopefully there will be a lot that follow.
Seemed that some of the usual pub visitors there where surprised as well, cause they walked out again ( guess they're more used to the electronic music, then some good old fashioned musicians).
The Hometown Gamblers rocked the place again with their old style rockabilly and as far as we're concerned they could have played all night long. They were called back 4 times and by the owner who sang a very strange version of Get rhythm ( luckily just for a few seconds).
Songs on their playlist:
“ Tattoo”, ... continue reading

Ruth Brown passed away
Ruth Brown has passed away. She was known for classic rock and roll records like Mama He Treats Your Daughter Mean, Wild Wild Young Men, Lucky Lips, and This Little Girl's Gone Rockin'.
Ruth started her career in 1949 and went on to become one of the most successfull R & B stars of the 50s. After fading from the spotlights and hitting rock bottom in the 60s, she made a come back as a blues diva, appearing in movies (Hairspray) and musicals, and performing at festivals like Hemsby and Viva Las Vegas. Miss Rhythm was 78.

Moonshine Reunion - De Mops, Melsele (concert review)
Good turnout for a thursday gig, even though it seemed that most people didn't come for the music but just to have a drink with a good soundtrack. I got the impression that there's always a lot of people at De Mops, must be one of the most popular bars in the neighbourhood, or maybe it's just the only bar for young people in that area. Anyway, it's a good pub for gigs with a small but decent stage, free entry at gigs (I think they just raise the price of the drinks) and quality sound system, which should come as no surprise as De Mops is run by Willie "Wuff" Maze, drummer of blues band The Electric Kings. Every first thursday of the month Wuff ... continue reading

The Ace cafe Rumst a small bikers pub was the stage for this evening filled with old style Rockabilly. The Gamblers really set the mood for an excellent evening.
By the time they started to play the place was packed.

Concert Review: Hof ter Loo, Antwerp 11/11/06: Cd Presentation.
Drunkabilly organised this Cd presentation of 3 Bands: The Hellsonics, Moonshine Reunion, Milwaukee Wildmen.
First band on stage: The Baboons.
Can’t really write anything about this cause by the time I got there they just played their last song, but of what I heard from standing at the bar section I like what I heard, next time guys.
Next up: The Hellsonics.
I was expecting some psychobilly, but this sounded like pure metal to me.
This was a bit too heavy for me, but overall a great gig.
On their set list songs like: “These boots are made for walking”, “ Witch”, “ Demon Queen”.
Next up: Moonshine Reunion.

Concert Review: Big Bayou Bandits, Den Billenkletser Antwerp 10/11/06
Part of the Jazz&Blues Kroegentocht Antwerp. Though we didn’t get to go to another pub.
On stage the Big Bayou Bandits.
An evening filled with Cajun spiced rockabilly and what an evening it was.
Guy, Cockie and Yves really had the place rockin.
Patrick from Runnin Wild joined the band on stage for Jambalaya.
Towards the end of the evening we were treated to a small reunion gig of the Billy Goat Riders with Chuck on guitar, Guy on Bass and Yves on drums and vocals.
Their sets contained songs like: “ J’suis content d’etre Cajun”, “ La Prison”, “ Diggy Liggy Lo”, “ Sweet little miss Blue eyes”, “ Fille de Houma”, ... continue reading
