More Notes from the Road

Madrid concert at La Riviera was madness; it was packed to the ceilings. Sold out! One of the coolest things I've ever seen was before the show; Slim Jim and I shared a car from the hotel to concert and were amazed by the thousands of rockers, Billies and Betties that were descending on the venue. They looked great. Fantastic show. I think it was my personal best playing of the tour so far. At one point someone in the crowd yelled out "18 Miles to Memphis," so Brian looked over at me and we played it instead of "Blast Off.
"
On Thursday, August 21, we all got on a plane and flew from Madrid to Rome and the on ... continue reading

Sébi Lee, Cooperville 17/08/2008
Cooperville a bar, with a terrace and situated near the marina of Turnhout, has a cozy atmosphere. Lately they have been organizing Rock’n’roll gigs, which I can only appreciate. This time it was Sébi Lee’s turn. Sébi Lee, a guy, who compared to a few years ago has made a transformation. A lot more settled down, at ease and prepared for a chat. The man has a lot of humor and makes a lot of effort to talk in Dutch, and that immediately makes him loved by the audience. What I did find a pity was that he swapped his quiff for a plaited pony tail. A new Sébi Lee, I guess you could say, who had also changed his set list considerably. No longer all ... continue reading

Dita: Her Body Is a Wonderbra
Los Angeles (E! Online) – Well, there's obviously more to it than that, but bodacious neoburlesque performer Dita Von Teese does want to uplift you with her new lingerie, inspired by '40s and '50s underthings (but without the rigid undergirding of those old-school cups that seemed constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers).
Dita's Wonderbra designs, due out in September, clearly have much more warmth:
"I love it when you can go about your daily business with the knowledge that you have a little secret of your own on underneath.
"Lingerie shouldn't be something you just put on for your lover; you should do it for you. ... continue reading

Rockin At The Drive-in Barn 16&17-08-2008, Oosteeklo
For the third year in a row, Tio tony organized this festival, this year with collaboration of the Poisoned pistons, a car club from Bruges. The festival is always held at the same place, namely, like the title would suggest, in a barn. The parking lot in front of the barn was packed with classic cars, hot rods and bikes by the time we got there, and it seemed like there where a lot more then previous years. A lot more vendors aswell. It nice to see this festival grow every year. Just one change this year, the festival was held over a two days period, my compadre Frantic Franky is gone tell you a bit about Saturday night, since I wasn’t able ... continue reading

Notes From Europe and Stray Cats Tour
Well I am in Spain now after a bumpy and sleepless flight fron LA to London and the on to Bilbao, Spain. We just finished 2 days of rehearsals, and I got to say the band has never sounded better. We have a couple of new songs that were trying, as well as bringing back a couple of classic songs we haven't done in years. It looks like "Cry Baby" and Lust and Love" will be on the set list as well as a couple of songs that we never have played before. It's the night before the first concert and I'm having a hard time adjusting to the 9-hour time change from California to Spain. The three of us are charged up and ready to go and I feel like I'm about ... continue reading

Buck Owens Post Office unwrapped on Buck's birthday
The Minner Station Post Office in Oildale was officially renamed “Buck Owens Post Office” Tuesday — the same day as the late country singer’s birthday. Several hundred people gathered in the morning to celebrate the man who made Bakersfield famous.
“Dad would’ve been really, very proud,” said Buddy Owens before the plaque was revealed. “My dad loved Bakersfield and he loved the fact that his name was attached to it.”
Those in attendance sang “Happy Birthday” to Owens before the sheet was lifted to show the plaque.
Bakersfield Postmaster James Brouillard and McCarthy also gave speeches about Owens and his impact on the ... continue reading

Jerry Wexler, famed record producer, dies at 91
NEW YORK – Jerry Wexler not only coined the phrase rhythm and blues, the legendary music producer was one of the key architects of the genre. He revolutionized popular music with seminal, superstar-making recordings of acts such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and others.
But the genius of Wexler, who died Friday at his Sarasota, Fla., home at 91, was not limited to just one style of music. Over his decades-long career, he would create varied soundscapes that touched just about every kind of listener, from his work with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson to his masterful recording of Dusty Springfield to his work with pop and rock acts like ... continue reading

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - Steel guitarist Don Helms, the last remaining member of Hank Williams' original Drifting Cowboys Band, has died from a heart attack, fellow performer Marty Stuart said.
Helms, 81, died on Monday at Nashville's Skyline Medical Center, Stuart said.
"He was the dean of Nashville musicians and truly an essential part of the Hank Williams legacy," Stuart said.
