Slim Slip & the Sliders at The Rambler (august 17, 2008)
Yesterday I went to see Slim Slip & the Sliders at The Rambler in Eindhoven(Holland)
An early start because the guys had to catch a train to London the same night.
And once again not a big crowd for these guys today (too many other things to do in the region I think)
Slim Slip & the Sliders played two sets. Two very great sets, well played and sang, and full with great energy.
Their CD will come out in two weeks so they played a few songs of that CD. And of course some great covers too.
Althought it was a small crowd, the guys get them dancing and shouting out for more.
I remember the following songs : Snaggle Tooth  ... continue reading

Kimmie Rhodes Tours With Emmylou Harris
Kimmie Rhodes, Texas recording artist and multi-platinum selling songwriter, tours Europe with Emmylou Harris in September in support of her new CD release, “Walls Fall Down”.

Emmylou and Kimmie are friends and have written songs and recorded together several times in the past. One of their collaborations, “Love and Happiness For You”, was included in the Harris-Mark Knopfler duet CD “All the Road Running”. Kimmie and Emmylou also recorded that song as well as “Send Me the Sun” for Kimmie’s CD “Love Me Like a Song” on her indie label Sunbird Records. In addition, they co-wrote a song called “Ordinary Heart” which appeared in the movie  ... continue reading

Visit Anno-Expo 58, Saturday 9 august 2008, Mechelen
As a50’s freak, this exposition is an ideal opportunity to get the feel of that time. Sometimes you wonder why so many young folks grasp back to this period. I think it has something to do about the romantic feel it all has.
Once you enter the Lamot site, on the top floor you get a survey of the construction of the pavilions of the participating country’s of the world fair in 1958. You need to have some interest in architecture. For me a bit too technical, but very fascinating. The lower floors are constructed as a building site, this is done on purpose, to emphasize to major building plans Mechelen had at that time. Many of the old buildings  ... continue reading

Seatsniffers 02-08-2008 @ Merksplas Feest
One of the advantages of living in Belgium is that all summer long there are free
concerts in parks and on town squares, which is an ideal way to check out new bands
or bands that you hesitate to pay a lotta money for. Plus you not only get the
chance to discover new talent, but you can see many established bands as well. I
mean : this weekend The Seatsniffers play at the Hot Rod Hayride in the UK,
tonight you could see 'em for free on the market square of Merksplas, a town most
famous for its jail ! It took the stage crew a while to get the front boxes working
properly (they seemed to turn off and on at their own  ... continue reading

UF crowd cheers Bo Diddley degree
Applause rippled through the O’Connell Center on Saturday morning as Evelyn Kelly, daughter of the late rock and roll legend Bo Diddley, accepted an honorary degree on behalf of her father at the University of Florida’s summer commencement ceremony.

Diddley, whose real name was Ellas Bates McDaniel, died June 2 at the age of 79. He and his family were longtime area residents.

Diddley, who dropped out of high school to pursue his musical career, was posthumously awarded an honorary doctorate in fine arts, presented by UF’s Provost, Joseph Glover.

UF has awarded more than 230 honorary degrees to date.

PRINCE Charles invited erotic dancer Dita Von Teese
PRINCE Charles invited erotic dancer Dita Von Teese to dance at son Prince Harry's birthday party - without realising the raunchy nature of the porcelain star's routine.

The heir-to-the-throne met the gothic flasher at the Cartier International Polo Tournament at the Guards Club in Windsor, England.

Charmed by her alabaster assets, he asked what she did for a living and Dita, 35, replied: “I’m a dancer.” That's when Charles invited her to perform at Prince Harry’s 24th birthday.

A source told the UK's Daily Star newspaper: “Poor Charles was so embarrassed when he realised what he’d done. He genuinely had no idea about  ... continue reading

House of rock
ST. LOUIS — The Guitar King's old home may not be palatial, but it could
soon be historic.

A local preservation group is working to put a house once owned by Chuck
Berry — the St. Louis native considered by many the father of rock 'n' roll
— on the National Register of Historic Places.

The shotgun-style cottage at 3137 Whittier Street is no Graceland. It
features a simple white awning against sturdy red brick and a narrow porch.

The original fixtures were stripped long ago. At the moment, it's
unoccupied, a victim of rising foreclosure rates long after Berry sold it.

It was, however, Berry's  ... continue reading

Dave Alvin, John Doe, Peter Case, Big Sandy and more perform at the Dog & Pony Show benefit festival, Aug 30, 31 and Sept 1
Dear friends, fans and everyone else:

I’d like to let you know about a 3 day benefit called the Dog & Pony Show that some
close friends and I have put together for this coming Labor Day weekend, Aug 30, 31
and Sept 1.

The past year has been very hard health wise for many members of the California
music scene. Four friends/musicians of ours (western soul singer Chris Gaffney,
superb guitarist Duane Jarvis, blues diva Candye Kane, psycho-billy hot-rodder Drac
Conley) were all diagnosed with different forms of cancer and need our help to deal
the expense of their various treatments. Instead of putting on  ... continue reading
