Revealed . . . Elvis's secret visit to London (with a little help from rock rival Tommy Steele) They say the King never set foot in England.
They say the King never set foot in England.

But in 1958, an American boy with a sneering smile and perfect Southern manners was shown around town.

His guide was a cheeky Cockney lad with a mop of blond hair.

But the day a young Tommy Steele showed Elvis Presley the sights of London has remained a rock 'n'roll secret for 50 years.
Until one of Steele's friends blurted it out on the radio yesterday.
Had the pair been spotted together in Britain at the time there would almost certainly have been a riot.

Presley, then 23, needed military guards to control crowds whenever he appeared in public in  ... continue reading

Dear Bookers, Concert Organisers, Fans and Friends,

It is with great regret that we have to make this announcement today. Due to circumstances completely beyond our control the 2008 European Tour must be cancelled. Jim and the band are very disappointed with events that have led to this decision but we are unable to make alternative arrangements at this late stage.

Unfortunately we cannot go into any detail about how this situation has arisen, we can only apologise profusely for the inconvenience caused. We are ourselves trying to come to terms with this last minute change of events, it is certainly not a position that any of  ... continue reading

The world's most astonishing building turns 50
BRUSSELS, Belgium - Belgium on Thursday celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Atomium, an oddity of modern architecture touted as the "most astonishing building in the world."

Built for the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels, the Atomium is a towering structure made up of nine giant aluminum-clad spheres linked with steel tubes. The sci-fi design represents an iron atom magnified 165 billion times.

Originally planned as a temporary attraction, it became one of the best-known landmarks of the Belgium capital.

Belgium is marking the anniversary with fireworks, concerts, exhibitions and special showings of classic movies  ... continue reading

Rockin Bowl 12/04/2008 @ Antwerp Bowling
For the sixth time in a row, Sam and Rudy organised another edition of the Rockin Bowl. And like always they did a great job.
On stage this time: The Hometown Gamblers, a band that needs no further introduction and from the Netherlands: Mischief.
Opening the night The Hometown Gamblers, we got there around 21u30, so we only saw a few numbers of these guys, but like always they had a very tight sounding set, but we would see them back later in the evening.
In between gigs, Dj Big Ben, entertained the audience and the bowlers with some great rocking and swinging tunes.
Didn’t see what time they started but the second band took  ... continue reading

Hawkins' lands key to the city
A hero, mentor, teacher, close friend; the house wife's companion; the man who danced like Elvis Presley did, moonwalked before Michael Jackson and will always be the King of Rockabilly; Mr. Ronnie Hawkins now officially owns a golden key to the City of Peterborough.
More than 150 guests gathered for great music, food and drink at the Evinrude Centre Saturday (April 5) for the seventh Mayor's Dinner and Homegrown Homes fundraiser.
Rockabilly king Hawkins was also celebrating his 50th year in Canada and being honoured by roasters and toasters for his contributions in the community, most notably the 2004 flood relief concert and Festival  ... continue reading

Kim Lenz New record in the works!
It's official! I'm recording my first new record since 1999. I've assembled the old crew - Nick Curran on guitar - Jake Erwin on bass and Scotty Tecce on drums. Billy Horton of Fort Horton is engineering. We just laid down the band tracks last week at Joey Altruda's place in Hollywood and I couldn't resist posting a rough mix of one of our new songs even though it doesn't have vocals yet... scroll down to the bottom of my songs and take a listen if you like... it's a stroller called "That's the Breaks" that I wrote with Big Sandy! I'll repost it again in a few weeks after I get the vocals recorded.

Yee-haw rockabilly in progress!
Thanks  ... continue reading

New photos of Elvis in 1972 surface
NEW YORK - Never-before-seen photos have surfaced of Elvis Presley rocking Madison Square Garden in all his jumpsuited glory. The images were taken in 1972 by George Kalinsky, the official photographer of the famed arena, the singer's estate said Wednesday.

Kalinsky came across the photos while working on a campaign for a billboard company called "Great Moments in New York." Now one of them is on display as part of the campaign on a three-story billboard atop the Virgin Megastore in Times Square; it shows The King glancing up, his outstretched arms holding the cape of his glittering jumpsuit.

Kalinsky needed to get permission  ... continue reading
